Food Miles Lesson
In this active lesson, students will consider the sources of our food, and the distance the food travels to reach our plates. Working in groups, students will trace the steps that a meal, either sourced locally or non-locally, took to reach the plate. Students will compile data and calculate the miles each meal traveled. The lesson concludes with an energizing activity where students expend their own energy to demonstrate how far each meal has traveled from farm to plate.
